Alien Gynecology
I picked images from an old German medical book: Die Heilgymnastik in der Gynaekologie: und die mechanische Behandlung von Erkrankungen des Uterus und seiner Adnexe nach Thure Brandt (1895), translated from German as "The physiotherapy in gynecology and the mechanical treatment of diseases of the uterus and its appendages by Thure Brandt". The wonderful people at publicdomainreview.org have impressively scanned several of the most astounding images, which I have reworked using Adobe Illustrator.
Why did this German doctor draw people as the archtypical "gray" alien of current popculture? I have two theories. One, he wasn't adept at drawing people. I can believe and sympathize with that as neither am I. Two, drawing people like this removes any possible sexualization. No way to turn his serious medical text into highly provocative porn.
